Implementation & Operations

The level and scope of our work varies based on client needs and their desired level of engagement. We place a high priority on knowing our clients and remaining flexible. In all cases our work is tailored to the unique needs of the client, while at the same time it is informed by best practices in the field.

For those clients who choose to work with us in a holistic fashion, we offer an integrated solution to address their philanthropic, legal, and investment needs. For other clients, the scope of our engagement is more narrow. As an example, some clients engage us to serve as staff for their foundation, whether as Director, Program Officer, or Administrator, providing a range of program development, strategy, research, grant review, evaluations, and recommendations. Other clients engage us to focus exclusively on foundation administration and compliance, while they focus on grantmaking. In all cases, we work collaboratively with our in-house legal, tax, and investment teams, or with outside managers already in place.

Hemenway & Barnes provides a wide range of advisory services to keep your foundation running smoothly, such as:

Getting Started
For individuals and families new to giving, it can be challenging to sort through the wide range of charitable vehicles and discern which one works best for your desired outcome.
Engaging the Next Generation
We focus on next-generation planning in all aspects of our practice, fielding questions from clients about how best to engage their children or grandchildren in the practice of the family’s philanthropy.
Legacy Planning
Everyone defines their legacy in different ways. We work with clients to understand, shape, and preserve their definition of legacy for future generations.
