Lawrence T. Perera left the bench to become a partner at Hemenway & Barnes in 1979. Lawrence has been active in the field of trust and estate law since commencing practice in 1962. Lawrence is currently Of Counsel with the firm. In addition to serving as an executor and trustee and as counsel to fiduciaries, Lawrence's practice also includes such related areas as the resolution of disputes involving the construction and administration of wills and trusts, will contests, and guardianship and domestic relations cases. In the past, Lawrence has served as an independent director of the Scudder, Stevens and Clark Common Stock and Balanced Funds and as a trustee of Massachusetts Investors Trust and various other investment companies managed by Massachusetts Financial Services Company of Boston.
Lawrence is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a life member of the American Law Institute. Lawrence was faculty member and Trustee of the national Judicial College. He served as President of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. from 1987 to 1989. Lawrence has served as a mediator and special master for the Trial Court of the Commonwealth.
After clerking for Associate Justice R. Ammi Cutter of the Supreme Judicial Court, Lawrence joined the firm of Palmer & Dodge, where he practiced until he was appointed a judge of the Middlesex County Probate Court in 1974.
