Starting in 2018, Congress imposed a new tax on nonprofit organizations that provide transportation and parking benefits to their employees. This tax is based on the nonprofit’s expenses, rather than on the value of benefits provided, and applies to thousands of nonprofits that never before had to pay federal tax. In addition, because of the way the tax was framed in the federal tax code, many nonprofits will have to pay additional tax at the state level as well. However, there are ways to mitigate, or even eliminate, the impact of this new tax. Brad Bedingfield will discuss how this new tax may affect your organization, how to fill out the necessary tax forms, and what you can do to avoid pitfalls – and perhaps avoid the tax altogether.
