Brad Bedingfield to Present "Race- and Sex-Based Grantmaking in 2025" at National Association of Charitable Gift Planners Conference
Brad Bedingfield, partner and chair of the Nonprofit Group at Hemenway & Barnes, will present "Race- and Sex-Based Grantmaking in 2025" at the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners Conference October 15-17, 2025.
About the Session
Donors wishing to provide a leg-up to historically disadvantaged groups have long established grantmaking programs that take race, sex, or other identity criteria into account. Those programs are now under assault, both from private litigants and from the federal government. Brad will discuss what the law currently allows in this regard, and what charities (including private foundations, community foundations, and higher ed institutions) currently managing these funds and programs are doing with them in light of these pressures. Brad will also discuss practical alternatives to allow donors to impact historically disadvantaged communities in a way that better positions them to navigate these challenges.
