Mary W.B. Curtis Trust

The terms of the Mary W.B. Curtis Trust require funding to be made to programs devoted to training boys and young men in good citizenship. Programs which include girls and young women are eligible to apply, but the funds requested must be allocated to benefit only the boys and young men participating in the program.

The Trustees will consider requests for a single year of funding. Organizations may be funded for up to three consecutive years, but are then asked to take the following year off. After a one year break, organizations are welcome to apply to the Trust again. Grant awards are typically $5,000 to $10,000. The Trustees will occasionally consider a request outside of this range.

The deadline for submitting a proposal is December 31.  Proposals must be received by 5 p.m. in order to be reviewed by the Trustees.  Requests will be considered by the Trustees at the annual meeting the following spring, and notice of Trustees' decisions will be sent in April.

There is no formal application to the Mary W.B. Curtis Trust or annual report to distribute.  The Trustees will accept the Associated Grant Makers common proposal format, which may be found at www.agmconnect.org/grantseekers.  To apply, a proposal should including the following:

  • Detailed proposal, including a description of the organization's mission, description of the program, and the number of persons to be served.
  • Financial information:  an organizational and program budget, including expense and revenue sources, and the most recent audited financial statement and IRS Form 990.
  • Determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) confirming federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) and classification as "not a private foundation" within the meanings of Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Please be sure the determination letter includes the federal tax ID number.
  • Associated Grant Makers Common Proposal Cover Sheet (whether or not you use the AGM Common Proposal Form).

Facsimile applications will not be accepted, but applications may be sent electronically to sfish@hembar.com.  Please direct all inquiries and correspondence to Grants Administrator Susan M. Fish, 617/557-9766 or sfish@hembar.com.
