EDWARD NOTIS-MCCONARTY joined Hemenway & Barnes in 1978. He was admitted to the partnership in 1985. After spending several years in a general practice, he now concentrates his practice in the areas of probate litigation, civil litigation, dispute resolution and fiduciary work. He continues to focus on resolving estate and probate issues in the Probate and Family Court while continuing to handle matters in the Superior Court and the United States District Court for Massachusetts. Through his work on estate and probate matters, Mr. Notis-McConarty has continued to handle matters relating to fiduciary administration, estate planning and taxation and, in recent years, has become increasingly involved in the fiduciary services practice at the firm. Mr. Notis-McConarty represents a number of non-profit and religious organizations, providing general counsel and litigation support services.  He serves as Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.

Mr. Notis-McConarty has served in numerous leadership roles at the Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations. He presently serves as Chair of the Probate Law Section Counsel of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Mr. Notis-McConarty is also Co-Chair of the Supreme Judicial Court's Working Group on Expanding Access to Justice and as a member of the Probate and Family Court's Task Force on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has served as Chair of the Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Appointments, and as Co-Chair of the Delivery of Legal Services Section of the Boston Bar Association and the Access to Justice Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Mr. Notis-McConarty has also served as Co- Chair of the Legal Advocacy and Resource Center in Boston. He is a co-author of Ethical Lawyering in Massachusetts (MCLE). Mr. Notis-McConarty has written and lectured extensively on issues relating to probate litigation and the challenge to the courts presented by increasing members of unrepresented litigants.

He graduated from Harvard College (cum laude) in 1973 and from Boston College Law School (magna cum laude) in 1977 where he served as Executive Editor of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review. After graduation from law school, Mr. Notis-McConarty clerked for Justice Edmund Keville of the Massachusetts Appeals Court and for Justice Ruth I. Abrams of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
