FREDERIC J. MARX joined Hemenway & Barnes in 1984 and became a partner in 1989.
Mr. Marx's practice has focused on representing business organizations involved in
the technology, software, medical device and financial service sectors. Mr.
Marx's clients range from development stage entrepreneurial ventures to publicly
held corporations. Mr. Marx advises clients regarding technology development and
licensing, venture capital and equity financing, strategic partnerships and
alliances, mergers and acquisitions, business planning, securities law, tax and
intellectual property issues.
Mr. Marx served two terms as Chairman of the Business Law Section of the
Massachusetts Bar Association, and served as Chairman of the Boston Bar
Association's Committee on Massachusetts Securities Law and is a member of its
Corporate Law Committee. Mr. Marx was the recipient of the IMS Health,
Incorporated Outside Counsel Outstanding Achievement Award. Mr. Marx was recently named to the 2007 Best Lawyers in America publication within the Non-Profit Charitable Law Section. Mr. Marx was named to The Best Lawyers in America for 2009.
Mr. Marx has been a speaker on business law issues, technology licensing and
development, strategic partnerships and other issues at seminars presented by the
Massachusetts Software Council, New England Banking Institute, Massachusetts Bar
Association and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. He has been an
editor of Massachusetts Corporations, published by Lawyers Cooperative Press, and
is a contributing author for Massachusetts Business Lawyering, published by
Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc.
Mr. Marx is also actively engaged in assisting and advising nonprofit
organizations. He is the editor of Massachusetts Nonprofit Organizations,
published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc., and is a recipient of
the Boston Bar Association Denis Maguire Pro Bono Award. Mr. Marx served two
terms as Chairman of the Non-Profit Organization Committee of the Massachusetts Bar
Association.
He graduated from Haverford College in 1978 and Boston University School of
Law in 1981 (magna cum laude) and served as an Editor of the Boston University
Law Review.
