MICHAEL B. ELEFANTE joined Hemenway & Barnes in 1970 and became a partner in 1976. He served as Managing Partner of the firm from 1993-1999. Mr. Elefante's professional practice focuses on representation of individuals and families, and service as a professional fiduciary. Mr. Elefante serves as a director of the Deltech companies, companies involved in the specialty chemical business. He acts as the lead Hemenway & Barnes trustee in a number of family trust complexes. In that capacity he serves as a co-trustee with U.S. Trust Company and other private trust offices. Mr. Elefante also served as a director of the former Dow Jones & Co., Inc.

Mr. Elefante is a Life Member of the American Law Institute. He has been a director of Greater Boston Legal Services since its organization in 1976 and served as president of the Board from 1990 through 1995. He serves as a Trust Fund Commissioner for the Town of Winchester. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Syracuse University's Maxwell School and the Board of Citi Performing Arts Center.

He graduated from Syracuse University in 1965 (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Law School in 1969 (magna cum laude), where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Following his graduation, Mr. Elefante clerked for Chief Justice Raymond S. Wilkins of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
