DENNIS R. DELANEY has been with the firm since 1998 and was elected to the partnership in 2006. He serves as trustee for family and charitable trusts, and his law practice encompasses the areas of sophisticated estate planning, succession planning for privately held businesses, preserving family lands, non-profit law, taxation, and estate administration.
Mr. Delaney serves as co-chair of the Estate Planning Committee at the Boston Bar Association. He also serves as a trustee of the Harvard Conservation Trust, where he advises donors on land conservation techniques and advises the Board of Trustees on nonprofit law and governance issues.
Dennis has recently published articles in Financial Planning Magazine, Banker & Tradesman, Mass High Tech Journal, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, The Harvard Press, The Virginia Tax Review, The Monthly Digest of Tax Articles, and Exhibit A. He is also a contributing author to various books published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, including Drafting Irrevocable Trusts in Massachusetts and Understanding and Using Trusts. He is also a frequent lecturer before such groups as the Boston Bar Association on topics within his areas of expertise.
Dennis earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1996 (magna cum laude), where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, a G. Joseph Tauro Distinguished Scholar, a Liacos Distinguished Scholar, a Hennessey Distinguished Scholar, and the recipient of the Dr. John Ordronaux Prize. After graduation, he worked at Choate, Hall & Stewart in its estate planning department. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in 1989 and after graduation worked in the securities industry at Investors Bank & Trust and U.S. Trust through 1993.
