Elizabeth Small is a litigator with both plaintiff and defense experience representing Fortune 100 companies and individuals. She joined our firm in October 2011 after working as a litigator since her admission to the Bar, handling complex case management, discovery, appellate advocacy, and motions and trial practice.
Representative Experience
- Ms. Small executed successful motions to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction in multinational price-fixing and securities cases, addressing forum non conveniens and the act of state doctrine.
- Ms. Small researched and drafted a petition for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court in a complex, international tort case.
- When an Afghan woman sought counsel for an asylum claim before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Ms. Small represented the woman and her child. She negotiated and won a motion to terminate removal proceedings against the woman's husband before the U.S. Immigration Court.
Service to the community
Ms. Small served in the Americorp VISTA before entering law school, in a program in Miami for the I Have a Dream Foundation. While in law school, she clerked in the Office of the Public Defender for the Eastern District of Virginia and served as a Student Attorney with the Women and the Law Clinic.
